A New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc combining mineral purity and fruity richness
The Estate
Founded in 2000 by the Bourgeois family, who manage the eponymous estate in Sancerre, Clos Henri represents the New Zealand expression of French winemaking expertise passed down for ten generations. Located in the Marlborough wine region, the estate spans 110 hectares, including 42 hectares of certified organic vines. Under the direction of the three brothers Arnaud, Lionel and Jean-Christophe Bourgeois, with Damien Yvon as General Manager, Clos Henri stands out for its concept of an integrated "Clos", unique in New Zealand, which unites vineyards, winery and operations in a single location.
The Vineyard
The vines for this Sauvignon Blanc are grown in the Wairau Valley in Marlborough, on terroirs formed by the confluence of the Otiran and Waimaungan glaciations. The soils consist of Wither and Broadbridge clays as well as Greywacke stones. The vineyard is managed according to organic farming principles. The 10 to 20-year-old vines are cultivated without irrigation, promoting deep rooting and natural balance. Controlled yields guarantee concentration and quality.
The Vintage
The 2025 growing season began with a cool and dry flowering, creating high yield potential that was managed by thinning shoots and bunches. December proved to be warm and dry, before cooling down after Christmas. Ripening was slow with many cloudy days and cooler than usual temperatures between February and March. These conditions made it possible to obtain grapes combining ripe fruit, density and richness, balanced by a pure and concentrated minerality resulting from this gradual ripening.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes are machine harvested and then gently pressed, separating free-run juice and press juice. After three days of settling, the juices are racked off the gross lees. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve fruit purity and aromatic expression. The wine is then aged for three months on fine lees with stirring, allowing for natural stabilization and imparting texture, complexity and roundness.
