The estate

Born in 1953 in Beblenheim from the union of the Bott and Geyl families, winemakers since the 18th century, the Domaine Bott Geyl in Alsace has been run since 1993 by Jean-Christophe and Valérie Bott, joined by their son Pierre-Antoine. The estate farms 18 hectares, including 6 Grands Crus and 3 remarkable Lieux-Dits. Certified organic since 2000 and biodynamic since 2002, it favors fermentations with indigenous yeasts and absolute respect for the terroirs, making Domaine Bott Geyl an essential benchmark of Alsatian viticulture.

The vineyard

The Riesling "Les Éléments" 2022 comes from vineyards located in the villages of Riquewihr, Zellenberg and Ribeauvillé in Alsace. The 15- to 40-year-old vines are rooted in a clay-silt-sandstone terroir. The 2.5-hectare vineyard is farmed with strict respect for living organisms, including plowing and the addition of compost and organic matter. Treatments are limited to biodynamic preparations and herbal plant infusions.

Winemaking and aging

The 2022 harvest was carried out by hand in 40 kg crates, with grape sorting. The climatic conditions made it possible to obtain grapes with fine ripeness, harvested plot by plot to respect the development of each terroir. The Riesling "Les Éléments" 2022 is vinified following a minimalist approach. After pressing whole clusters for 8 hours, the must undergoes 12 hours of static settling. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks with indigenous yeasts for 5 months. The wine then rests on fine lees until early September. No chaptalization, acidification, fining, or enzyme additions are used.
