Nose
The nose reveals an intense personality with aromas of very ripe dark fruits, notably blackcurrant and blueberry. In the background, spicy balsamic notes emerge, reminiscent of pepper and clove, accompanied by hints of leather and tobacco.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is powerful and perfectly balanced. Its impressive structure is built on ripe, round tannins. The long, pleasant finish leaves a very persistent impression.
Food and wine pairings
This Malleolus 2022 is an ideal match for grilled red meats, game in sauce, or aged hard cheeses.
Serving and cellaring

A powerful, balanced Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero by Emilio Moro
The estate
Founded nearly 130 years ago in Pesquera de Duero by Emilio Moro, Bodegas Emilio Moro has carried on a family winemaking tradition across four generations. Established in Castile and León, the estate spans areas between Ribera del Duero and Bierzo. The third generation currently runs the estate, supported by the fourth. The vineyard primarily grows Tempranillo in Pesquera and Godello in Bierzo, a diversification that sets Emilio Moro apart among Spain’s great wine houses.
The vineyard
The Malleolus vineyard, whose name means “vineyard” in Latin, refers to old vines in Pesquera de Duero in Ribera del Duero. The plots are planted on stony soils with a south-west exposure, ideal conditions for growing Tempranillo, also called tinto fino in the region.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage in Castile and León benefited from favorable spring temperatures that accelerated vegetative growth. The arrival of summer slowed this development. Hot, dry weather persisted through to harvest, resulting in exceptional concentration and ripeness in the grapes.
Winemaking and aging
Malleolus 2022 was crafted using traditional methods. Skin maceration lasted 18 days. Malolactic fermentation was then carried out for 30 days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The aging of this Spanish wine took place in French oak barrels until bottling.
Grape variety
Tempranillo (100%).
