The estate
Founded in 1880 in Beaune, the House of Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy’s most important estates, with nearly 90 hectares of vineyards. The estate’s story truly took off in 1921 with the acquisition of Clos des Mouches by Maurice Drouhin. Today, Véronique Boss-Drouhin and Philippe Drouhin carry on the family legacy across an exceptional heritage comprising 27 Grands Crus and 47 Premiers Crus spread over 90 appellations, from Chablis to the Mâconnais. A pioneer in biodynamics, the House cultivates a style that favors finesse, elegance, and minimal intervention.
The vineyard
Clos des Godeaux lies north of Beaune, in the commune of Savigny-Les-Beaune, on an outstanding terroir. Facing due south at 360 meters above sea level, this Climat neighboring the Premier Cru Lavières sits on Bathonian limestone marls. The light, pale-colored soil is scattered with distinctive angular stones. The name of the lieu-dit comes from the term "Godiaux," referring to the three springs that once gushed from the rock.
Vinification and aging
The Savigny-Les-Beaune Village "Clos des Godeaux" 2022 comes from hand-harvested grapes picked into small ventilated crates, followed by meticulous sorting. After complete destemming, fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts for 2 to 3 weeks in small open vats, then vertical pressing. Aging of this Burgundy wine takes place over 14 to 16 months in French oak barrels, 20 to 25% of which are new oak.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
