Tasting Notes and Serving Tips for the Meursault Village 2018 from Leroy

Tasting

Color
The wine displays a bright golden-yellow hue with green highlights, reflecting its youthful character.

Nose
The nose reveals a beautiful aromatic range that is complex and harmonious. Notes of white and yellow flowers mingle with aromas of white-fleshed fruits, citrus and a chalky minerality. With aeration, subtle hints of toasted hazelnut and roasted almond gradually emerge.

Palate
On the palate, the wine captivates with its breadth and precise complexity. The attack reveals a creamy, rich texture, balanced by lively acidity that brings structure and freshness. The palate unfolds flavors of yellow fruits, lemon and hazelnut, accompanied by mineral and earthy touches. The finish stands out for its sublime, persistent length, inviting you to extend the tasting.

Food and Wine Pairing
This Meursault Village 2018 pairs perfectly with fine grilled or poached fish, lobster with garlic butter, crayfish and large shrimp. It also matches well with poultry in cream sauce, veal in a white sauce, or mushroom-based dishes. Aged hard cheeses such as Gruyère or Comté also make excellent pairings.

Serving and Cellaring
This Meursault Village 2018 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. Its cellaring potential extends for around ten to fifteen years, during which the wine will develop secondary aromas of honey, almond and truffle.

A Dry White Meursault from Burgundy Crafted Through Biodynamics

The Estate
Founded in 1868 by François Leroy, the House of Leroy embodies nearly 160 years of Burgundian excellence. Today, Lalou Bize-Leroy, a legendary figure in Burgundy and the current owner, passionately oversees the three family entities: Maison Leroy, Domaine Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay. A pioneer of biodynamics in Burgundy since 1988, she has converted all of her vineyards to these principles, obtaining ECOCERT and Demeter certifications. Exceptionally low yields and rigorous vintage selection have established Leroy as one of the world’s most prestigious and sought-after producers.

The Vineyard
Meursault Village comes from parcels located within the Meursault appellation, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. The vines grow on clay-limestone soils typical of the region, made up of marl and limestone that lend minerality and structure to the white wines. The parcels benefit from south and southeast exposures, encouraging optimal ripening of Chardonnay. The vineyard is farmed entirely biodynamically, with practices including the application of plant-based preparations, manual soil work, massal selection for vine replacement, and deliberately limited yields.

The Vintage
The 2018 vintage in Burgundy is considered exceptional. The year was marked by remarkable sunshine from April to September, creating warm, dry conditions. Veraison stretched over six weeks due to the heat and lack of water, allowing for extraordinary aromatic concentration. The grapes reached an almost perfect state of health, with a notable absence of disease. Despite the heat, the white wines retained remarkable freshness, fine acidity and mineral tension, thanks in particular to early harvesting. The 2018 vintage produced opulent, rich white wines while maintaining vibrancy and minerality.

Winemaking and Aging
The Meursault Village 2018 grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. Vinification takes place in oak barrels, following traditional Burgundian methods. The wine is aged on full lees with regular bâtonnage until mid-December, thereby developing aromatic complexity and a creamy texture. Aging then continues in barrels, without systematic use of new oak in order to preserve the purity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir. The wine is neither filtered nor fined, thereby respecting the wine’s natural integrity.
