A Classic and Refined Burgundy Wine from Savigny-Les-Beaune
The estate
Established in Beaune in 1877, the Remoissenet Père et Fils House is one of Burgundy’s most respected négociant houses. Since 2005, it has been led by Pierre-Antoine Rovani and Bernard Repolt, with Claudie Jobard as technical director and winemaker. The House owns around 20 to 25 hectares of vineyards, mainly in the Côte de Beaune, and stands out for its commitment to biodynamic viticulture on its estate-owned plots. Remoissenet Père et Fils is renowned for its non-interventionist philosophy in the cellar and its rigorous grape selection, producing wines that faithfully express their terroir of origin.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the Savigny-Les-Beaune appellation, located in a valley near Beaune, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. The vines benefit from generous southern exposures and soils composed of limestone and clay, typical of the area. Remoissenet owns several estate plots within the appellation, farmed according to biodynamic principles. The Savigny-Les-Beaune terroir gives the wines a remarkable balance of roundness, power, and finesse, characteristic of this appellation renowned for its charming, elegant red wines.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions. A devastating frost in early April hit the vines after an unusually warm March. The Côte de Beaune was severely affected, with significant crop losses. The cool, rainy spring that followed required heightened vigilance against fungal diseases. Fortunately, September brought ideal conditions with dry, sunny weather, allowing the surviving grapes to reach satisfactory ripeness. This 2021 vintage is characterized by its freshness, elegance, and classic Burgundian style, with wines lighter in color and alcohol than recent vintages, yet offering beautiful aromatic expression and remarkable finesse.
Winemaking and aging
The vinification of the Savigny-Les-Beaune Village 2021 follows the House’s non-interventionist philosophy. Fermentations take place in traditional open-top French oak vats, using only indigenous yeasts. Extraction remains moderate to preserve the delicacy of Pinot Noir. Aging is carried out for around 16 months in 350-liter French oak barrels, with approximately 30% new oak for this village cuvée. The wine is neither fined nor filtered before bottling, thus preserving its natural texture and its potential for complexity.
