A vibrant and refined white wine from Etna, Sicily
The estate
Founded in 1830, the Tasca Conti d'Almerita - Tenuta Tascante estate has developed its vineyard on the northern slopes of Etna, in Sicily. Run by Giuseppe and Alberto Tasca d'Almerita, ninth generation, this family-owned estate stands out for its specialization in carricante, an indigenous white grape variety. The estate is part of a group of five properties totaling around 480 hectares of vineyards, farmed with respect for Sicily’s volcanic terroir.
The vineyard
The Contrada Sciaranuova vineyard lies on the northern side of the Etna volcano, in Randazzo in the province of Catania. Planted at an altitude of 730 meters, it sits on volcanic formations dating from 15,000 to 4,000 years ago. The vines, planted in 2017, benefit from a north-south exposure.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage began with a cool spring marked by sporadic rainfall. Summer proved very hot, before precipitation arrived in August. The dry start to October enabled optimal ripeness to be reached. Harvest took place on October 17, 2022.
Winemaking and aging
The Contrada Sciaranuova Etna Bianco 2022 is traditionally vinified at a controlled temperature of 18°C for 8 days. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out. Aging takes place for 12 months in 25-hectoliter oak barrels, on fine lees, giving this Sicilian wine complexity and structure.
Grape variety
Carricante (100%).
