The estate
Established in the 1920s by Hermann Dönnhoff in Oberhausen an der Nahe, Weingut Dönnhoff now spans more than 25 hectares. At the helm since 1966, Helmut Dönnhoff works alongside his son Cornelius, the fourth generation to join in 2007. Considered a living legend of the German vineyard, Helmut has built a worldwide reputation for his exceptional rieslings. The estate stands out for its plots with diverse soils and its philosophy focused on balance and quality.
The vineyard
The Riesling Tonschiefer Trocken 2022 comes from the Leistenberg site, located in the Nahe region. The vines, aged 25 to 45 years, are rooted in a grey-black clay slate soil. This distinctive terroir gives the wine its unmistakable mineral character and racy structure.
Winemaking and ageing
The harvest is carried out by hand with careful selection to pick only grapes at optimal ripeness. After selective hand-harvesting, the Riesling Tonschiefer Trocken 2022 is vinified and then aged in stainless-steel tanks and large oak foudres. This combination preserves the fruit’s aromatic purity while adding subtle complexity to the wine.
Grape variety
This German wine is 100% riesling.
