The Mineral Elegance of a Great Meursault from Bouchard Père & Fils
The Estate
Founded in 1731 as a wine merchant house, the renowned Bouchard Père & Fils began building its vineyard estate from 1755 onwards. A true institution in Burgundy, it oversees a mosaic of prestigious terroirs from the Château de Beaune. Today, the estate is led by Frédéric Engerer and is majority-controlled by the Artémis Domaines group (the Pinault family), in partnership with the Henriot-Larouzière family. The estate stands out for its environmental commitment and its unique heritage.
The Vineyard
The plot dedicated to this Meursault covers a small area of 0.44 hectares in the estate's ownership, within an appellation that totals 11.43 hectares. Ideally situated between the climats Les Bouchères to the north and Les Genevrières to the south, this terroir benefits from a fine east and south-east-facing exposure. The vines, farmed organically, thrive on limestone soils dotted with white marl.
The Vintage
The year stood out for its particularly bright and sunny weather. To cope with this heat and preserve the natural balance and freshness of the berries, the harvest was carried out relatively early.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes are hand-harvested in small 13-kilo crates, with a rigorous manual sorting of each bunch. Pressing takes place in two stages: an initial draining of the first juices, followed by two-hour cycles. The wine is then aged for 9 to 10 months in French oak barrels, with up to 15% new oak, before being refined for 3 to 4 months in stainless steel tanks. Ageing then continues naturally in the cellars of the former Château de Beaune's bastions.
