Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Volnay 1er cru "En Chevrets" Domaine 2022 Bouchard Père & Fils
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a lovely medium ruby red hue, subtly evolving towards light garnet nuances.
Nose
The bouquet opens with very delicate floral aromas, marked by rose and violet. It then reveals a beautiful hedonistic complexity carried by notes of fresh red fruits, such as cherry and raspberry.
Palate
The attack stands out with a velvety, rounded texture. The mid-palate unfolds a harmonious fruit concentration, supported by elegant, perfectly integrated tannins that never overwhelm the palate. The whole is enhanced by a lively, well-balanced acidity, extending into a remarkably long finish.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine from France pairs beautifully with roasted poultry accompanied by refined sauces, classically prepared offal, or feathered game such as pheasant or partridge. It also enhances pasta dishes or risottos with wild mushrooms and truffle, as well as soft, bloomy-rind cheeses such as brie or camembert.
Service and storage
This Volnay 1er cru "En Chevrets" Domaine 2022 already offers a very approachable profile in its youth, yet possesses remarkable ageing potential. It can be enjoyed now and will continue to develop in the cellar until around 2032.
The elegance and sensuality of a Volnay Premier Cru
The estate
Founded in 1731 in Beaune, the house of Bouchard Père & Fils is a true institution in Burgundy. Initially focused on textiles, it turned to the wine trade in 1746. Its acquisition of the Château de Beaune in 1820 consolidated its historic prestige. Today, the estate belongs to the Artémis Domaines group, led by the Pinault family. Under the guidance of technical director Frédéric Weber, the estate, which maintains around fifty hectares in the Côte de Beaune, stands out for its strong environmental commitment, with a conversion to organic farming. Bouchard Père & Fils embodies Burgundian excellence and tradition.
The vineyard
The Climat "En Chevrets" covers a modest area of around six hectares within the Volnay appellation, south of Beaune. This exceptional terroir, bordering the famous vineyards of Meursault, is set on marl-limestone soils mixed with reddish clay and pebbles. The vines benefit from a gentle slope and an ideal east-facing exposure, promoting optimal and balanced ripening of the grapes, while giving the wine its characteristic finesse.
The vintage
The year 2022 stood out for particularly favourable climatic conditions, offering both generosity and quality. After mild months of February and March, spring proceeded smoothly, leading to a perfect flowering between late May and early June. Heavy rainfall at the end of June helped build up essential water reserves. Despite water stress in August, timely rains in mid-August refreshed the vines before an ideal dry and windy period just before the harvest.
Winemaking and ageing
The estate's philosophy is based on a rigorous micro-plot approach. For this Volnay 1er cru "En Chevrets" Domaine 2022, the grapes are harvested and vinified separately to preserve the pure expression of the terroir. Ageing then takes place meticulously in oak barrels, with a proportion of new wood generally ranging between 30 and 50% depending on the cuvée, allowing the wine's structure to be refined before the final blend.
