Gosset : Celebris Rosé Extra Brut 2008

A rich rosé in a vinous style, with steeped raspberry and black cherry fruit flavors and an aromatic overtone of whole grain toast, crystallized honey and salted almond. Fine and creamy in texture, with a firm backbone of well-knit acidity creating a mouthwatering impression on the lightly chalky, herb- and spice-laced finish. Chardonnay and Pinot. Drink now through 2028. 50 cases imported.

An evolved rosé leaning toward amber and coppery tones. It’s a complex rosé with a touch of spice and macerated red fruits; a rosé that moves into potpourri, with citrus peels present. The palate is broad with a diffuse power. The wine still shows plenty of freshness for a rather old vintage.

Its youthful character, with no hint of development, makes it hard to imagine that this Champagne is nearing twenty years of age. The fine month of September 2008 helped make up for an overall cool, rainy vintage, yielding a great rosé with subtle tension and an airy, delicious finish.
