Château Beauregard 2020

A showy, polished version, with a mix of warm mocha, fruitcake and blackberry compote. Reveals a lively tobacco streak through the finish that packs verve, but this is still one for short-term consumption. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2027.

Gorgeous, intense nose of dark chocolate and ripe blackcurrants. Fleshy and softly chewy on the palate at first, though the tannins have a slightly woody bitterness that coats the mouth (dark chocolate, liquorice and clove), adding texture and a touch of dryness while the perfumed fruit is somewhat pushed into the background. The oak is dominating for now, restricting the overall expression, though there is lovely acidity and some bright red fruits beneath the clear heft and broad-shouldered frame. Bold, exuberant and polished, but it needs time.

A rich and chewy red with lots of blackberry, chocolate, nutmeg and hazelnut character. Medium-bodied with plenty of tannins, too. Needs time to soften. Extracted, but will come true with bottle age. From organically grown grapes. 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Drink after 2028.

The 2020 Beauregard is gorgeous. Dark, ample and expressive, the 2020 offers tremendous depth and textural intensity from start to finish. Black cherry, gravel, incense, tobacco, espresso and chocolate all race out of the glass. Even with all of its obvious intensity, the 2020 remains wonderfully fresh and vibrant. It's a superb wine by any measure.

The opening notes of violets, coupled with all those sweet, ripe cherries, spice, plums, and licorice, get you excited to know more, and they do once the wine crosses your palate with all its layers of fresh, silky, elegant red fruits that express a beautiful sense of purity, along with chocolate and spice on the palate. Beauregard has really been upping their game over the last couple of years. Drink from 2024–2047.

Nice perfume of raspberry, cassis, ripe herbs, discreet oak. The palate combines purity, ripeness and freshness with good definition and length.

High levels of Cabernet Franc come through in waves of fennel, sage, plums, damson, and juicy red fruit. This has punch, with wild strawberry, raspberry coulis, and edges of tomato leaf. Complex, enjoyable and rather brilliant – this is an upscore from En Primeur. 37hl/ha yields, certified organic for 10 years.

A blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Beauregard is deep garnet-purple in color. It prances out with gregarious notes of plum preserves, wild blueberries, and cedar chest, plus hints of powdered cinnamon and iron ore. The full-bodied palate is laden with densely packed black fruit and spicy layers, supported by ripe, rounded tannins, finishing long.

30% Cabernet Franc and 70% Merlot make up the final blend of the greatest Beauregard in history. Its vibrant, fleshy, floral fruit is delightful. A silky attack gives way to an energetic mid-palate and a long, radiant finish.

Clos Beauregard reveals itself with elegant, understated precision. Fine and harmonious, the wine can be enjoyed in its youth, yet it also has a thoroughly respectable aging potential. An accessible and delicious Pomerol!

The nose is elegantly fruity with lovely definition and a charming hint of roast, showing depth and a very fine grain. There are notes of bigarreau cherries, even roasted cherries, violet and, more subtly, small blue fruits, joined by touches of vibrant black berries as well as fine hints of tobacco, camphor, and an appealing racy warm-gravel character. The palate is fruity and chiselled, with freshness and minerality. Its tangy backbone supports fine definition and beautiful harmony, silkiness, a gentle fresh roundness, and lovely energy, all in balance and finesse. We find notes of fresh roasted cherries, raspberry, and more subtle violet, combined with touches of vibrant blackcurrant, a hint of star anise, fresh blue fruits, fresh licorice notes, a very discreet touch of almond, and very, very subtle hints of cocoa and toast. This wine has a lovely tangy structure with supple, sapid tannins that lend a touch of softness.

Deep red colour. Intense, refined, fruity nose and above all pure. Delicate on the attack, very flavoursome on the mid-palate, it melts into a suave, beautifully built palate. Lovely length with a woody touch that still needs time to integrate.

Beauregard stands out for its beautiful expression of ripe fruit, a certain density marked by precision, good tension, and delicate floral notes. The palate is well-focused, with hints of licorice, supported by finely toasted tannins. The whole is perfectly digestible and balanced, capped by a pleasant juiciness.

Deepest ruby, opaque core, purple reflections. Delicate liquorice and vanilla, dark forest berries and nougat, discreet noble wood savoriness. Juicy, ripe black cherries, integrated tannins, chocolaty, mineral, a powerful and spicy wine.

The tannins are still firmly present in this wine, so it will need time for the structure to soften and integrate with the black currant fruits. Then it will be a rich, Merlot-dominated wine that will age well. Drink from 2026.
