The estate
Located in France, in Burgundy, at the golden gateway to the Côte de Nuits, Château de Marsannay was founded in 1990 by the Boisseaux family. Acquired in 2012 by Olivier Halley, its current owner, the estate has undergone a profound transformation. Under the technical direction of Sylvain Pabion, the estate has moved towards sustainable viticulture, completing its organic conversion in 2021. The vineyard spans 40 hectares and stands out for its commitment to letting the identity of its terroirs express itself through a minimally interventionist approach.
The vineyard
The vineyard of the Marsannay appellation flourishes on slopes facing east and south-east, at altitudes between 255 and 390 metres. The vines rest on a complex geological mosaic from the Middle Jurassic, blending clay, marl and various limestone formations. The estate applies rigorous organic principles here, encouraging biodiversity by planting trees, using organic compost and ploughing the soil with horses to avoid compaction.
The vintage
The year 2022 began with a dry winter with mild temperatures, causing early budburst. Despite a few frosty nights in April, flowering proceeded ideally in mid-May under warm conditions. The rains at the end of June and mid-August were crucial in relieving the vines from the summer heatwaves, allowing the berries to reach optimal ripeness before the harvest in early September.
Winemaking and aging
For the Marsannay Village 2022 cuvée, the grapes undergo a rigorous sorting process upon arrival at the cellar to retain only the healthiest berries. Winemaking is carried out with minimal intervention to respect the pure expression of the fruit. Malolactic fermentation and aging take place in oak barrels, within an underground cellar temperature-controlled at fifteen degrees.
