Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Marsannay Village 2023

Tasting

Colour
A deep ruby hue, enhanced by subtle garnet reflections typical of red wines from the region.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with a lovely concentration of red and black fruits, blending morello cherry, fresh strawberry and blackcurrant. Delicate herbal and menthol touches bring a pleasant freshness reminiscent of the forest floor.

Palate
The attack is powerful, introducing a full and generous texture. The tannic structure, both fine and silky, is perfectly balanced by the brightness of the ripe fruit. The long, velvety finish stretches out with delicious notes of fine pepper, liquorice and a subtly woody touch.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs perfectly with characterful meats such as a rib steak with shallots or marinated game, but also goes wonderfully with poultry in sauce, river fish or washed-rind cheeses such as Époisses.

Service and storage

This Marsannay Village 2023 reveals all its aromas when served at a temperature between 14 and 17°C. While it already offers great tasting pleasure, it has excellent aging potential and can be enjoyed until at least 2030.

The authentic expression of a red wine from the Côte de Nuits

The estate

Built in 1990, Château de Marsannay is a key figure in Burgundy, France. The estate spans a vineyard spread across prestigious terroirs. Acquired in 2012 by Olivier Halley, its current owner, the château has benefited from significant investments to modernize its infrastructure. Strongly committed to an environmental approach, the estate has practiced certified organic, agroecological viticulture since 2022, aiming to express the full purity and complexity of its climats.

The vineyard

Located at the northern gateway to the Côte de Nuits, the vineyard is planted on the finest climats of the Marsannay appellation. Vine management is based on soil-friendly practices, including horse ploughing, the use of organic amendments and meticulous physiological pruning, in order to preserve biodiversity and the natural balance of the terroir in the face of climatic challenges.

The vintage

The year 2023 demanded constant attention amid particularly contrasting weather conditions. After a mild winter, a rainy spring gave way to a summer marked by intense heatwaves and notable water stress. Harvest was brought forward to early September under dry conditions, allowing for the picking of healthy, concentrated berries at optimal ripeness.

Winemaking and aging

To craft this wine, the grapes benefit from a minimal-intervention approach. Part of the harvest is vatted as whole bunches for a gentle maceration of two to three weeks, favoring infusion over intense punching down. The wine is then transferred into oak barrels in temperature-controlled underground cellars, where it slowly evolves.
