Description
The structure and vivacity of a Margaux Grand Cru Classé
The estate
Located on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, Château Giscours is a historic estate of the Margaux appellation, with vines first planted in the 16th century. This magnificent 3ème Cru Classé of Margaux is a true flagship of the Bordeaux region, with its distinctive architecture reminiscent of a neoclassical palace, its park of rare tree species and its buildings including the beautiful "Ferme Suzanne". Since 1995, Château Giscours has entered a new era in its history following its acquisition by the Albada Jelgersma family.
The vineyard
Château Giscours is a Margaux wine produced from a vineyard of 95 hectares of vines in production out of 300 hectares in total. A true jewel, the unique character of Château Giscours' terroir lies in the presence of three mounds of deep Garonne gravel, which play a decisive role in the ripening cycle of the grapes.
The gift box
The estate unveils a gift box bringing together, in magnum format, three landmark vintages from its contemporary history:
The Château Giscours 1996 displays a deep ruby robe and a complex bouquet blending black fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant) with earthy notes of tobacco, undergrowth and graphite. On the palate, it stands out for its velvety texture, aromas of plum and truffles, fine tannins and a lingering finish. It pairs perfectly with noble red meats, duck or aged cheeses, and should be served between 16 and 18°C after one hour of decanting.
The Château Giscours 2006 reveals a deep, shimmering ruby robe, preceding an expressive nose of stewed black fruits — blackberry, blackcurrant — enhanced by wilted rose petals, blond tobacco and liquorice. On the palate, the attack is silky, with fine, velvety tannins enveloping flavours of small black fruits and spices, carried by a lively acidity through to a long and persistent finish. Elegant and well balanced, this vintage is at its peak and can be enjoyed until 2032, served at 16–18°C after 3 to 4 hours of decanting.
The Château Giscours 2016 shows a very dark robe, almost black, revealing great density. On the nose, it expresses aromas of black fruits with a certain restraint that hints at a profound aromatic richness when swirled. On the palate, it seduces with a dense and elegant tannic framework, contained power and remarkable precision, typical of a great, refined and straightforward Cabernet Sauvignon.
