Description
The expression of a Second Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Julien
The estate
An essential reference on Bordeaux's Left Bank, Château Léoville Barton was acquired by the Barton family in 1826. Classified as a Second Growth since 1855, the estate, still run by Hugh Barton's descendants, stands out for its commitment to elegance and stylistic consistency.
The vineyard
The vineyard extends over 50 hectares at the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation. The vines are planted on an exceptional terroir composed of deep gravel resting on a clay subsoil, typical of the Médoc's great growths. This geological composition provides ideal natural drainage while allowing the roots to draw the necessary nutrients from deep below. The average age of the vines reaches 38 years, lending concentration and complexity to the wines.
Grape varieties
The result of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (82%) and Merlot (18%), this Château Léoville-Barton 2018 marks the achievement of a truly great vintage for the Second Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Julien.
