A restrained style, with a beam of cherry, cassis, lilac and sandalwood flavors, revealing a good fleshy feel and solid depth throughout. Light perfume and tobacco hints give the finish some added range. No fireworks here, just balance and focus. Best from 2021 through 2032. 19,167 cases made.

Still a bit oaky, but once past the espresso, you find licorice, smoke, chocolate, toast and black cherries. Round, supple, and fruity, with an hour of air it’s even better. Drink from 2024–2046.

Pure nose with lifted aromas of red fruit, floral hints, red currant, plum and a herbal spiciness. Rather full palate, still a firm tannic backbone, crushed plum and tobacco flavours with a rather long finish.

The medium ruby-colored 2016 Château Prieuré-Lichine is a touch lean and firm, yet has impressive notes of spring flowers, damp underbrush, and loads of minerality. Possessing both red and black fruit, present tannins, and good balance, it’s a solid, enjoyable effort that would be even better with a touch more flesh.

Exuberant from the first sip, with an expansive feel through the mid-palate, and supple tannins that support the fruit without constraining it. Expect waves of blackberry, cassis, liquorice, smoked earth, campfire, pomegranate, crayon, delivering plenty of Left Bank character. A fascinating estate from a terroir perspective, as former owner Alexis Lichine bought small plots across the appellation when rebuilding it from the 4ha that remained when he first acquired it. Standing at 78ha today, the vines are divided into five sections around the Margaux appellation, and sub-divided into 150 plots. The 2016 Prieure-Lichine is deep garnet-colored. It bursts from the glass with vivacious scents of black cherries, blackcurrant pastilles, and lavender, leading to hints of menthol and pencil shavings. The medium-bodied palate is tightly wound with black fruit and savory flavors, supported by grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with impressive length.

The most complete in recent years, the most precise in its crafting, with impeccable body and substance and tremendous ageing potential, all within exemplary Margaux-style classicism.

The 2016 is one of the gentlest of the appellation, with a graceful, fine, and digestible palate. A lithe yet pleasing wine.

On the palate, the wine is tasty, juicy and well-balanced. It shows good aromatic intensity and tannins that provide a fine backbone on the finish. A pleasant wine that can already be enjoyed in its youth and has potential.

The wine stands out with a very fruity, pure and suave nose, and a melt-in-the-mouth, aromatic palate with a meticulous touch, good presence, and unmarked tannins. It’s very good.

With vineyards in the southern Margaux village of Cantenac, this estate has produced a deliciously juicy wine. The structure follows a straight line between the tannins and the intense fruit and acidity. The wine should age well, ready to drink from 2024.
