Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Robert M. Parker, Jr.

The medium-bodied, tasty, flavorful St. Julien possesses soft, briery, berry fruit intermixed with herbs, earth, and spice box, which are moderately intense. The wine is low in acidity, with sweet tannin, and fleshy fruit. It should be drunk during its first 10-12 years of life.

Subtle and fine. Pleasant aromas of black licorice and berry. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a silky texture. Lovely red. Best after 2004. 5,000 cases made.

Deep garnet-ruby color with a violet rim. A tremendous bouquet: Cabernet perfume, sour cherries, Amarena cherries, raspberry seeds, a gently jammy note—intoxicating and inviting. Full-bodied, almost opulent on the palate, with a buttery extract; again lots of primary, softly marmalade-like fruit, and a creamy, sweet finish. Enormous fun to drink—a Chambertin from St-Julien that will improve further as it reaches full drinking maturity.

00: Very pale color, wide watery rim. Lean, drop-candy-like bouquet with milky/fermented notes. On the palate, creamy, smooth texture; supple, rather light but very well balanced, showing charm and a wonderfully red-berry finish. 15/20 2003 – 2010

Bordeaux-red color. Dark. Medium to good intensity. Lively. Nose of medium intensity. Slightly oxidative note. A soft, delicious attack on the palate, developing with a medium-bodied structure. The mid-palate is flavorful and still quite velvety. The tannins build slowly, with fine-grained tannins and a particularly supple, elegant mouthfeel. A nice, flavorful and subtle finish. I regret that oxidative note, which detracts from my appreciation.
