Wine Spectator

James Molesworth

Features a core of plum cake, raspberry paste and blackberry coulis flavors, coated with a hefty dose of roasted apple wood and cedar notes. A touch woodsy in feel, but there's some solid fruit here. Best from 2017 through 2021. 4,500 cases made.

Decanter

Deep colour, ripe smoky cassis nose, good ripeness and clarity of fruit, with smoothness and charm to come.

James Suckling

Extremely balanced and refined, with blueberry, currants and hints of sandalwood. Medium to full body, attractive mouthfeel. Needs a year or two to soften. Drink now.

Forward drinking, the wine serves up a blend of licorice, menthol, plums and espresso. The wine has a roundness to its texture, but it is on the lighter side of the style range, which is typical for the vintage. The wine was produced from a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot.

Elegant toastiness, red and dark fruity notes on the nose. Medium weight with a good core of fruit, present but balanced tannin, fine length and potential.

Pale cherry in colour, enticing aromatics but soft in structure. As is typical with the 2013 vintage, there is a dip in concentration and flesh compared to most vintages in this Saint Pierre lineup. Expect raspberry, sloe and bilberry fruits, beginning to soften around the edges, with texture from liquorice and slate-like tannins. Gentle persistence, this plays with your palate, stretching out and surprising with its salinity and mouthwatering finish. 50% new oak, harvest October 2 to 15, Eric Boissenot consultant.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2013 Saint-Pierre is medium garnet colored with a touch of brick. Sweaty leather, rusty nails, and tobacco notes dominate the nose, leading to a core of dried mulberries and figs. The light- to medium-bodied palate is chewy and tart, with hardly any remaining fruit and a rustic finish.

Bettane+Desseauve

Excellent mid-palate volume, solid tannins, very good selection in a difficult vintage, perhaps a touch less finesse than some neighbours due to oak that is just a bit too forward.

Le Figaro Vin

The colour is garnet and the nose shows red fruits. The palate is fresh, with good density, and a slight firmness on the finish that will disappear during ageing.

Color of normal intensity. Black highlights. Fine, fruity, smoky nose. Juicy from the outset, the wine unfolds very fruity, flavorful, and fragrant, with vibrant fruit and fine tannins. It’s delicious and seamless. Burgundian style! Blend: 74% cabernet sauvignon, 8% cabernet franc, and 18% merlot.

This wine is dark and extracted, with bitter chocolate flavors as well as hints of black-currant fruit. It does have weight and structure that could develop, but will need time, so wait until 2020.
