Château Vray Croix de Gay 2010

The 2010 Vray Croix de Gay is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc (pretty much a standard reference blend for many estates in Pomerol). This tiny estate of approximately 12 acres has produced a solid wine with medium body and attractive notes of licorice, roasted herbs and forest flora as well as black cherries and black currants. The wine is medium-bodied and well-made, with light tannins in the finish. Give it 1-2 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 10 years.

Raspberry and boysenberry fruit courses through this version, with sweet, mouthwatering anise and toasted spice notes leading to a long, racy finish that lets a black tea note weave in. Combines a creamy and racy feel. Drink now through 2020. 1,000 cases made.

Almost minty freshness on the nose. Quite rich, broad and solid, with good depth of fruit and high acidity to balance it. Fleshy red, earthy fruit palate with a good future. Elegant and poised with plenty of lift and drive.

Beautiful nose with cranberries, crushed chalk and licorice. Opens up with some iron, chocolate and floral notes. Full-bodied with really soft, velvety tannins and polished, pure fruit on the palate. Long, precise finish. Drinks wonderfully already, but the tannins will integrate further over the next years. Best ever from here. Drink from 2015.

Vray Croix de Gay The property increased the percentage of Cabernet Franc in the wine to 25% from 10% starting with the 2010 vintage. The remainder is Merlot. Showing deep color, floral, chocolate, jammy black raspberry and earthy scents open to a medium/full-bodied wine that’s filled with round, supple blackberry and ripe plums. 90-91 pts

Extremely dark purple. Rote Grütze, light coffee and cedarwood, a sweetness that still seems somewhat dry. Velvety texture, forest berries, Red Currant, a compelling, outstanding potential. Full of character, but perhaps a little lacking in finesse?

Very violet on the nose as on the palate, with a silky texture and deep tannin, and a subtle floral echo on the finish.

Delicious wine, well-structured, slender yet rich, with fine tannins. No austerity.

Dark and inky core. Very fresh nose of dark plum, wild berries, mild spices and elegant oak. The palate shows good density and concentration but with a gentle extraction, fresh and vibrant, with elegant notes of blackberry, plum, cassis, fine spices and a long, supple finish; very elegant with juicy fruit and great drinkability.

90-92 Densely characterized wine, with its dark tannins, and powerful structure. Spice, juicy pepper, final acidity.
