Description
The structure and balance of a dry white from the Loire
The estate
In 2018, Ivan Massonnat, a seasoned connoisseur of fine wines, took over the Pithon-Paillé estate, founded by Jo Pithon. Now known as Domaine Belargus, this Anjou vineyard today covers 24 hectares farmed entirely biodynamically. The estate is distinguished by a plot-by-plot production drawn from rigorously selected crus, lieux-dits and monopoles, with a guiding principle of expressing the authentic, mineral character of Chenin Blanc, the flagship grape variety of the Loire.
The vineyard
The Rouères cuvée comes from a plot of nearly 3 hectares, planted on one of the three historic sites in Anjou mentioned in the founding decree of the Quarts-de-Chaume appellation. Enjoying a south-easterly exposure on the hillside of this prestigious terroir, this plot lies on poor, stony puddingstone soils, which are able to store the heat of the day and release it at night, thereby promoting optimal ripeness of the grapes.
Blend
This Rouères 2022 cuvée is 100% Chenin Blanc.
