The floral elegance of a great white Saint-Joseph by Domaine Courbis

The estate

Located in Châteaubourg in the Rhône Valley, Domaine Courbis draws on a family heritage whose origins date back to the 16th century. It was in the middle of the 20th century that the estate truly specialised in viticulture. Today, Laurent and Dominique Courbis manage this vineyard of more than forty hectares. Recognised as an essential name and a benchmark of the region, the estate stands out for its spectacular terraced terroirs and its commitment to enhancing biodiversity, illustrated in particular by the cultivation of truffle oaks alongside the vines.

The vineyard

This wine comes from the southernmost sector of the Saint-Joseph appellation. The vines thrive over an area of 5.6 hectares, about eight kilometres from Tournon, precisely at the 45th parallel, where the Isère meets the Rhône. The terroir consists of clay-limestone soils dating from the Middle Jurassic. The vines are planted on steeply sloping hillsides and benefit from an ideal east to south-east exposure.

Winemaking and aging

To craft this Saint-Joseph 2025, the harvest is carried out by hand in perforated crates to prevent the berries from being crushed. After careful sorting on a vibrating table, the whole clusters are pressed directly. A rigorous settling precedes the alcoholic fermentation, which begins at low temperature in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This fermentation is completed in barrels for about half of the volume. Finally, the wine benefits from nine months of ageing in barrels that have previously held between one and six wines.

Grape varieties

This wine is crafted from a blend of 97% Marsanne and 3% Roussanne.
