Domaine du Pas de l'Escalette : Les Clapas 2023

A blend of typical Languedoc grape varieties (Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris) and some rare varieties (Carignan Blanc, Terret Bourret), the 2023 Languedoc Les Clapas Blanc comes from a classic clay-limestone terroir and was aged for 10 months in large oak casks. Light lemon in color, it is fairly discreet on the nose, but reveals itself on the palate with lemon notes, quite lively and crystalline. Not very long on the palate (which is its only weakness), it is nicely structured on the finish with a touch of phenolic notes. Very food-friendly, I recommend it with raw and cooked fish and shellfish, or seared scallops. A white wine with beautiful mineral character, it’s light and structured at the same time.
