Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the First Flight 2024 from Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott
Tasting
Colour
This red wine displays a deep hue with violet highlights.
Nose
Highly expressive, the bouquet reveals aromas of fresh black fruit such as blueberry and wild blackberry. Sumptuous notes of violet mingle with delicate hints of black pepper and subtle spices.
Palate
The attack is supple and elegant. The harmonious, vibrant palate is supported by exceptionally fine tannins and superb freshness. The particularly sapid and persistent finish offers a delicious return of fruit and spice.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs beautifully with grilled meats, duck breast or a hand-cut beef tartare. It is also an ideal match for slow-cooked stews and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.
Serving and cellaring
To fully enjoy its aromatic range, it is recommended to open and aerate the bottle of First Flight 2024 at least one hour before tasting, and to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. This wine can be enjoyed now and will keep until around 2029.
The vibrant, fruity expression of a Rhône Valley Syrah
The estate
Founded in 2015, Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott is the fruit of a shared passion between Graeme, originally from New Zealand, and Julie, a native of the region. After honing their skills for seven years with a renowned winemaker, the current owners, Graeme and Julie Bott, created a small-scale vineyard in the northern Rhône Valley, France. Committed to an environmentally friendly approach, the couple crafts wines of great precision that faithfully reflect the richness of the region's crystalline terroirs.
The vineyard
Produced under the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes appellation, this wine comes from vines planted on decomposed granite soils in the villages of Ampuis and Condrieu. The vineyard is certified organic, with soil work and harvesting carried out entirely by hand to preserve the quality of the grapes and the authentic expression of the terroir.
Vinification and ageing
The vinification of First Flight 2024 is carried out with great care to preserve the vibrancy of the fruit. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for nine months in used French oak barrels with a capacity of 400 to 500 litres, refining the tannic structure without overwhelming the aromatic profile with excessive oak.
