Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions for the Crémant du Jura Vintage 2018 from Domaine Grand
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a pale golden-yellow hue with silvery highlights. The effervescence shows fine, persistent bubbles rising steadily in the glass, forming a delicate, long-lasting mousse.
Nose
The nose opens on an elegant bouquet of white flowers, alongside notes of white-fleshed fruits such as peach and nectarine. With aeration, aromas of brioche and toasted bread emerge, reflecting extended aging on lees. Subtle hints of dried fruit and hazelnut round out this complex aromatic palette.
Palate
The attack is fresh and lively, carried by a delicate effervescence. The palate is supple and rounded, with fine minerality that expresses the Jura terroir. Flavors move from floral notes to white fruits, then to toasty, lightly buttery nuances. The finish lingers elegantly, leaving an impression of freshness and harmony.
Food and Wine Pairing
This Crémant du Jura Vintage 2018 is ideally enjoyed as an aperitif. It pairs perfectly with seafood, oysters, langoustines, and smoked salmon. It also matches delicate white-fleshed fish, poultry in creamy sauces, as well as red-berry desserts or cream-based desserts. A well-aged Comté also makes a harmonious regional pairing.
Serving and Cellaring
Serve the Crémant du Jura Vintage 2018 at a temperature between 8 and 10°C to fully reveal its aromas and freshness.

The Estate
Domaine Grand traces its origins back to 1692 in the Jura. Since 2015, Emmanuel Grand and Nathalie Morin have been running this family estate in Passenans, near Château-Chalon. The couple made the strategic decision to reduce the vineyard area in order to focus on quality. They began conversion to organic farming as early as 2018, obtaining certification in 2021. Their philosophy is rooted in respect for the terroir, minimal intervention, and the authentic expression of each plot.
The Vineyard
Crémant du Jura is made from carefully selected plots on the terroirs of Passenans and the surrounding villages. The vines grow on varied soils composed of gray limestone, and gray and red marls. The continental climate of the Jura, with Alpine influences, gives the grapes fine freshness and hallmark minerality. The vines are farmed organically, with hand harvesting and rigorous berry selection. The plots benefit from optimal exposures, allowing the fruit to ripen harmoniously.
The Vintage
The 2018 vintage in the Jura is considered excellent by the region’s winegrowers. Mild climatic conditions enabled generous, well-balanced ripening of the grapes. The growing cycle progressed favorably, producing fruit of outstanding quality with a fine acid structure, ideal for crafting sparkling wines. Satisfying yields allowed for a demanding selection of the best plots destined for this vintage cuvée.
Winemaking and Aging
The Crémant du Jura Vintage 2018 is vinified using the traditional method. The grapes are gently pressed and the base wines ferment in old oak foudres and stainless-steel tanks, preserving the purity of the fruit while bringing subtle complexity. After blending, the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle, followed by three years of aging on lees. This extended maturation develops the brioche aromas and the creamy texture characteristic of this crémant. Fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, and sulfur additions are kept to an absolute minimum.
