Decanter

This masterful wine counts as one of the entry points for Guffens-Heynen, but it is a tour de force. There is a marked reduction to the initial attack, followed by aromas of grapefruit and passion fruit, with a hint of white flowers. The texture is firm and round, yet dynamic and fresh. The grapes were picked just before the rain, then fermented and matured in concrete to accentuate the fruit. A delightful wine.

Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Bourgogne "Jeunes Vignes et Derniers Jus" 2024 Domaine Guffens-Heynen

Tasting

Colour
This French white wine displays a golden hue, ranging from pale to medium, enhanced by bright, silvery highlights. Its perfect clarity reflects bottling without fining or filtration, while its moderate viscosity hints at a lovely texture.

Nose
Wonderfully complex, the bouquet opens with delicate floral notes of broom and chervil, underscored by a herbaceous touch of fresh coriander. With aeration, a minerality reminiscent of wet pebbles emerges, followed by aromas of lightly poached white fruits such as white peach, pear and apple. Subtle nuances of butter and honey add further richness to the whole.

Palate
The palate opens supple and fleshy, carried by a fine balance between refreshing acidity and moderate alcohol. The mid-palate gains in intensity with juicy flavours of yellow fruits (peach, apricot, mirabelle plum) and exotic fruits (pineapple, mango). A tangy citrus thread (orange peel, grapefruit, kumquat) energises the tasting, accompanied by spicy notes of saffron, nutmeg, candied ginger and liquorice stick. The long, precise finish lingers on peppery and lemony accents, offering a mineral, taut sensation.

Food and Wine Pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with seafood dishes, such as a warm white fish terrine, mussels marinière or with saffron, as well as cod fillet baked in parchment with citrus zest. It also enhances roast poultry with lemon and tarragon, or vegetarian dishes showcasing asparagus, artichokes or wild mushrooms. After a few years of cellaring, this wine will be an ideal match for rabbit braised in mustard and white wine.

Service and Storage

Approachable in its youth, this Bourgogne "Jeunes Vignes et Derniers Jus" 2024 also boasts fine ageing potential and can be enjoyed until around 2034.

Other Characteristics

This wine is perfectly dry, with a minimal level of residual sugar. It is bottled under a natural cork stopper, allowing for optimal micro-oxygenation during ageing.

The Freshness and Minerality of a Bourgogne White Wine

The Estate

Founded in 1979 by a Belgian couple, Jean-Marie and Maine Guffens-Heynen, the Domaine Guffens-Heynen has become a key reference in Burgundy. Located in the Mâconnais, this 5.3-hectare estate has played a major role in raising the region's international reputation. Today, Jean-Marie Guffens remains the owner and visionary behind the estate, supported since 2012 by cellar master Julien Desplans. Awarded three stars by the RVF, the estate stands out for its artisanal approach, natural viticulture and extremely low yields.

The Vineyard

This Bourgogne wine comes from vineyards spread across the villages of Pierreclos, Vergisson and Davayé. The vines thrive on slopes that are sometimes very steep, benefiting from south-east and south-west exposures. The subsoils, rich in limestone and clay, give the grapes a strong mineral identity. The estate practises natural, sustainable viticulture, with no chemical inputs whatsoever. Green harvesting work, such as leaf thinning, is carried out by hand, and yields are drastically limited to promote optimal concentration and ripeness of the berries.

The Vintage

The 2024 harvest took place throughout the month of September. True to its philosophy of precision, the estate carried out multiple passes through the vines in order to pick each bunch at its absolute peak of phenological ripeness, thereby ensuring optimal fruit quality despite particularly limited production volumes.

Winemaking and Ageing

The Bourgogne "Jeunes Vignes et Derniers Jus" 2024 cuvée is the result of a unique blend combining the first-press juices from young vines with the last pressings from the estate's oldest plots. After a gentle pressing that selects only the finest juices, fermentation begins naturally through indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on the lees, exclusively in concrete tanks for sixteen months, with no time in oak whatsoever, in order to preserve the freshness and brightness of the fruit. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay.
