Description
The richness and structure of a Pommard Premier Cru
The estate
Established in the heart of Burgundy, France, Domaine Lejeune occupies the historic premises of the Confrérie du Saint-Sacrement in Pommard. While the first vines date back to 1753, the true creation and consolidation of the estate took place in 1783. Now spanning 8.7 hectares, this historic estate has been managed since 2023 by Louis de Belleroche, alongside Nicolas Rerolle. Certified organic and moving towards biodynamic practices, the estate continues a traditional know-how while showcasing the authentic expression of its terroirs.
The vineyard
The "Les Poutures" Climat, located within the Pommard appellation, spans approximately four hectares. Positioned on the mid-slope, at an altitude ranging between 250 and 330 metres, the vines benefit from an ideal east- and south-facing exposure. The terroir is distinguished by soils composed of ancient alluvium, rich in clay and limestone. Excellent natural drainage is ensured by a gravel subsoil, while the presence of iron oxides gives the earth its characteristic reddish hue.
The vintage
The year 2023 stood out for its particularly favourable weather conditions. A mild spring allowed for excellent flowering. Summer, marked by intense daytime heat, benefited from cool nights, ensuring the preservation of good acidity within the berries. The dry weather that persisted right up until the early harvest guaranteed perfect grape health.
Winemaking and aging
This wine is crafted from hand-harvested grapes, followed by a vinification process incorporating around 20% whole clusters in wooden vats. Fermentation is triggered by indigenous yeasts, accompanied by daily punching down and pumping over during a maceration period of 22 to 25 days. The wine is then aged on fine lees, without systematic racking, for 12 to 15 months in oak barrels, of which 30 to 35% are new.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).

Palate
The attack is full and rich, introducing a texture with silky, perfectly integrated tannins. The palate unfolds fruity and spicy flavours, underpinned by a mineral backbone. The finish is long, persistent and remarkably fresh.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate this wine, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C, taking care to aerate it for about an hour before tasting while young. This age-worthy wine can be kept in the cellar until around 2035.

This red wine pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted red meats, such as a rib of beef. It also perfectly accompanies game dishes, poultry in creamy sauces, as well as soft, creamy cheeses.
