Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Javernières "Les Impénitents" 2025 by Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a deep red hue, ranging from intense ruby to garnet highlights, a sign of the fine concentration of this French wine.
Nose
The bouquet is highly complex. It opens with aromas of ripe red and black fruit such as black cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant. These are joined by delicate floral notes reminiscent of peony, iris and rose petals, all underscored by hints of spice and a minerality recalling graphite and crushed stone.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is broad and dense, supported by tight, powdery tannins. It stands out for its remarkable length, combining power and finesse.
Serving and ageing
Built to stand the test of time, this Javernières "Les Impénitents" 2025 has remarkable ageing potential and can easily develop in the cellar for more than fifteen years.
The depth and elegance of a Morgon wine
The estate
Located in the heart of Beaujolais, Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes is a true family institution whose winegrowing roots date back to 1712. Based in Villié-Morgon, the estate covers around 14.5 hectares of vines. Today, Claude-Emmanuelle and Louis-Benoît Desvignes, the eighth generation, run the estate with passion. Committed advocates of environmentally friendly viticulture, they guided the vineyard to organic certification, obtained in 2023. The estate is known for its attachment to tradition, shunning technical fashions in favour of the authentic expression of its historic terroirs.
The vineyard
This limited-production cuvée comes from a tiny 0.80-hectare plot in the historic Javernières climat, within the Morgon appellation. Nestled at the foot of the famous Côte du Py, these very old vines were planted in 1912 and 1914. They thrive on deep, predominantly clay soils rich in iron oxide, benefiting from an ideal south-east exposure. The vineyard is farmed without any herbicides, with the soil worked entirely by hand or mechanically, in strict compliance with organic farming standards.
Vinification and maturation
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand to ensure a rigorous selection of the finest bunches. The vinification of the Javernières "Les Impénitents" 2025 remains faithful to the estate's traditional methods, with around 95% whole-bunch fermentation and maceration lasting 9 to 13 days. The wine is then patiently matured for around ten months in concrete vats, preserving all the purity and authenticity of its terroir.
