Gérard Bertrand : Aigle Royal 2016

Pinot Noir from the foothills of the Pyrenees—that’s the story behind Gerard Bertrand’s 2016 IGP Haute Vallée de l'Aude Aigle Royal. It’s earthy and savory, with notions of cola and spice on the nose. Medium-bodied, it’s still a bit firm, so give it another year or so to come together, then drink it over the next 4–5 years. It’s a commendable effort, although it won’t make you forget about good Burgundy anytime soon.

A primary nose with notes of blackcurrant, blueberry and raspberry, with a spicy touch of nutmeg and green pepper. The palate is fresh and silky.
