A Red Wine from La Clape Shaped by Garrigue and Limestone
The Estate
Château l'Hospitalet is a Languedoc estate, acquired in 2002 by Gérard Bertrand, a winemaker originally from Narbonne who now heads sixteen châteaux and estates farmed biodynamically in the Languedoc and Roussillon. Located in the heart of the protected La Clape massif, the estate has been certified organic and biodynamic since the 2017 vintage. The true heart of the Gérard Bertrand group, Château l'Hospitalet embodies the Mediterranean art of living through its wines, its hotel and its restaurant.
The Vineyard
The Château l'Hospitalet vineyard stretches across the heart of the La Clape massif, a former island now joined to the coast, set among garrigue and pine trees with views over the Mediterranean. The limestone soils are distinguished by the presence of Gargasian marls and red earth, which ensure a steady water supply to the vines and promote the concentration of the grapes destined for the red wines. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate tempered by the tramontane, this Languedoc terroir is farmed according to biodynamic principles, with respect for the biodiversity of a site classified as a natural park.
Grape Varieties
This red wine is a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache Noir, emblematic grape varieties of the South of France that bring the tannic structure, fruit and spicy notes characteristic of the red wines of La Clape.
