The Power and Balance of a Dry White Bordeaux by Château Suduiraut
The estate
Located in the famous Bordeaux region, Château Suduiraut officially began its history in 1580, when it was created under this name following a marital union. This prestigious 90-hectare estate, recognised as a Premier Cru Classé in 1855, has been owned by AXA Millésimes since 1992. Under this stewardship, the property perpetuates the excellence of this Bordeaux terroir while developing a strong brand, combining respect for classic traditions with contemporary environmental management to produce wines of exceptional quality.
The vineyard
Originating from the prestigious classified terroir of Sauternes, this wine ranks among the great Dry White Bordeaux wines. The selected plots rest on sandy-clay gravel soils that promote beautiful minerality. The vines, averaging 45 years of age, are carefully cultivated to express all the concentration, character and elegance typical of this exceptional terroir.
The vintage
The year 2025 began with a mild and dry winter, marking a rainfall deficit of 45%. Budburst occurred early, around 25 March. Spring, which was wetter, required increased vigilance against the risk of mildew, before flowering took place under mild and stable conditions around 3 June. Summer was characterised by intense, persistent heat in late June and a water shortage of 30%, leading to early hydric stress and small berries. Veraison took place from 26 to 28 July depending on the grape varieties. Fortunately, a few welcome storms in late July and early August, followed by cooler and cloudier weather, helped preserve the acidity and quality of the grapes through to harvest.
Vinification and ageing
The making of the Grand Vin Blanc Sec "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 begins with a gentle, long pneumatic pressing of about 2.5 hours, followed by cold settling at 10°C. Fermentation takes place in barrels with rigorously controlled temperatures between 17 and 22°C, without any malolactic fermentation. Ageing then continues for 9 months in barrels (including 14% new oak and 86% one-wine barrels), accompanied by regular bâtonnage of the fine lees. Alcohol: 13.7% vol.
Grape varieties
66% Sémillon, 34% Sauvignon Blanc.
