Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Autour de la Roche" 2023 by J.-A. Ferret
Tasting
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals great delicacy, unveiling notes of white-fleshed fruits such as nectarine, paired with citrus touches reminiscent of kumquat. Subtle nuances of fresh butter and almond milk intertwine with a minerality evoking gun flint.
Palate
Both tender and lively, the attack displays a lovely intensity while retaining great elegance. The wine's architecture is vertical and linear, carried by a saline minerality and the freshness typical of the Vergisson climats. The finish stretches out with remarkable persistence.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with refined white fish, such as roasted turbot served with a lemon butter and caper sauce, or with crisp green asparagus. Its structure and freshness also enhance seafood such as oysters and scallops, as well as white meats and poultry served with a smooth cream sauce.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Autour de la Roche" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 11 and 12 °C. This wine requires a little patience and will ideally begin to open up from 2025. Its peak lies between 2027 and 2032, and it can be cellared until around 2034.

The estate
Founded in 1840, the J.-A. Ferret estate is a true institution in the Mâconnais region of Burgundy. A pioneer in estate bottling, this historic property covers approximately eighteen hectares. After being led by iconic female figures such as Jeanne Ferret, the estate was acquired in 2008 by the renowned Maison Louis Jadot, a key name in the Burgundian wine landscape. Since 2023, the estate has been managed by Clément Robinet, who carries on a philosophy centered on plot-by-plot expression and respect for the terroir, with organic farming certification obtained in the same year.
The vineyard
The plots dedicated to this Pouilly-Fuissé cuvée come from the finest terroirs located around the famous rock of Vergisson. The vineyard, farmed organically, stands out for its great geological diversity. The vines flourish on a mosaic of stony soils, sandstone and Triassic clays, as well as on shallower lands composed of hard limestone with gryphaea fossils. The average age of the vineyard is around 40 years, with the notable presence of very old vines, including the historic Vigne des Verchère planted in 1959.
The vintage
The 2023 year was marked by the conditions of a rather cool vintage, encouraging slow ripening and allowing the berries to retain lovely natural acidity along with great aromatic freshness.
Winemaking and aging
The crafting of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Autour de la Roche" 2023 receives the utmost attention. In order to preserve the purity of the fruit and the mineral precision of the terroir, vinification and aging take place 100% in stainless steel tanks. The wine notably benefits from extended aging on fine lees for five months, giving it texture without masking its vibrancy. Bottling took place in July 2024.
