A White Burgundy by Jean-Charles Fagot
The Estate
Based in Corpeau, in the heart of Burgundy, the Fagot family has been growing vines since 1860, although the estate was not officially founded until 1920. Today, Jean-Charles Fagot runs this 3-hectare family property. Winegrower, négociant, restaurateur and even musician, he embodies a multifaceted and passionate approach. Alongside his own vines, he sources grapes from partner growers to broaden his range. The estate stands out for its environmentally friendly practices, combining sustainable vineyard management with traditional methods to craft authentic, convivial wines.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the Mâcon-Lugny appellation, located in the southern part of the region, the Mâconnais. More specifically, they are sourced from the renowned "Saint-Pierre" sector. Although the estate is based in the Côte de Beaune, this négociant cuvée draws on close partnerships with local growers, making it possible to explore sunnier terroirs while upholding the house's exacting quality standards.
Winemaking and Ageing
The Mâcon-Lugny "Saint-Pierre" 2022 is made entirely under the producer's supervision in his own cellars. The philosophy is traditional and minimally interventionist. The wine undergoes careful ageing for 12 to 14 months in large oak foudres. This choice of vessel allows for gentle oxygenation, preserving the freshness and vibrancy of the fruit without overpowering the aromatic profile with excessive oak.
