Description

A historic and iconic estate of Burgundy

The estate
Founded in 1859 by Jean-Édouard Dupard in Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Jean Chartron is a true institution in Burgundy. With a heritage spanning more than 165 years, this family-owned estate covers 14.5 hectares and produces wines across prestigious appellations. Today, the fifth generation is at the helm of the estate: Jean-Michel Chartron has overseen winemaking since 2004, while his sister Anne-Laure manages the vineyards with a strong environmental focus. Renowned for its historic monopoles, Jean Chartron embodies the excellence of great white wines.

The vineyard
The vines of the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation thrive on east and southeast-facing slopes, at altitudes ranging from 220 to 325 metres. The terroir consists of clay-limestone soils of Jurassic origin, giving the grapes an exceptional minerality. The estate favours high planting density, controlled yields and farming practices that are not certified organic, yet carried out with deep respect for the environment. The average age of the vines is around 40 years.

The vintage
The year 2024 proved particularly challenging from a weather standpoint, marked by cool conditions, high humidity and intense mildew pressure. Faced with these challenges, the white grape variety demonstrated remarkable resilience. Thanks to painstaking work in the vineyards and extremely rigorous sorting during hand-harvesting, the estate prioritised quality over quantity, drastically reducing volumes to offer only berries of exceptional purity.

Winemaking and aging
For this Chassagne-Montrachet Village 2024, the hand-harvested grapes are vinified with great precision. Aging takes place in the estate's underground cellars, in French oak barrels. A measured proportion of new barrels, between 5 and 15%, is used to preserve the brightness of the fruit and the authentic expression of the terroir, while adding subtle complexity.

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Chassagne-Montrachet Village 2024 by Jean Chartron

Tasting notes

Colour
This wine reveals a beautiful bright and clear colour.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with floral notes of acacia and hawthorn, intimately intertwined with citrus and stone fruit aromas. The whole is underscored by delicate oak, bringing subtle toasted and spiced touches, along with a very light youthful reduction destined to fade with aeration.

Palate
The palate offers a superb balance between a fleshy, round and opulent texture and a wonderfully fresh acidity. The minerality from the limestone soils lends this wine a lovely tension, unfolding into a remarkably long finish.

Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with roast poultry, delicate white meats such as veal or rabbit, and noble fish such as turbot. It also enhances grilled shellfish, dishes with creamy sauces, and soft-rind cheeses such as Époisses or goat cheese.

Service and storage
To fully enjoy this Chassagne-Montrachet Village 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C, taking care to let it breathe or decant it 15 to 30 minutes before tasting. Although already very approachable, it has the ageing potential to be kept until around 2034.
