Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Chablis 1er Cru "Vaulorent" 2009 by Jean-Marc Brocard
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a pale yellow hue enhanced by delicate silver highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with subtle scents of white flowers and acacia. It then reveals lovely depth marked by liquorice and candied lemon, all wrapped in indulgent buttery and toasty touches.
Palate
Endowed with superb energy, the palate stands out for its precision and density. Remarkably elegant, it offers a highly mineral, saline structure that pairs perfectly with flavours of candied lemon and liquorice.
Food and Wine Pairings
This white wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as lobster, salmon quenelles, poultry in a cream sauce or flavourful white meats.
Serving and Ageing
For optimal enjoyment, this Chablis 1er Cru "Vaulorent" 2009 should be served at a temperature of 11 to 12°C. While the typical ageing potential of this cuvée is estimated at around 5 to 7 years, this particular vintage, notably kept in magnum at the estate, shows a remarkable capacity for extended ageing.
The Density and Precision of a Great White Wine from Chablis
The Estate
Founded in 1973 in Préhy, in the heart of Burgundy, the Jean-Marc Brocard estate has established itself as a true benchmark. Founded by Jean-Marc Brocard, this family house is now run by his son, Julien Brocard. Covering some 200 hectares, the estate stands out for its pioneering environmental commitment. With 60 hectares certified organic and 40 hectares farmed biodynamically, it ranks among the region's leading players in viticulture that respects living ecosystems, brilliantly combining substantial volumes with a precise, artisanal philosophy.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from the renowned Vaulorent climat, located on the right bank of the Serein, right next to the Grand Cru Les Preuses. This emblematic Chablis terroir lies on typical Kimmeridgian soils, made up of marl and limestone rich in marine fossils. The vines, aged 30 to 45 years, enjoy an ideal south-west exposure, which provides generous sunshine while preserving the freshness characteristic of the appellation.
The Vintage
The 2009 vintage is known for its particularly favourable conditions, which produced grapes of excellent ripeness. This harmonious year gave rise to wines combining richness and elegance, while retaining the tension and fine minerality typical of the region.
Winemaking and Ageing
The Chablis 1er Cru "Vaulorent" 2009 is crafted with a minimal-intervention approach. In an innovative gravity-flow cellar, the wine is moved naturally, without any pumping, in order to preserve the integrity of the musts. Alcoholic fermentation is initiated by indigenous yeasts, followed by full malolactic fermentation. The wine then undergoes extended ageing for 14 months on the lees, mainly in large oak foudres, sometimes complemented by time in stainless steel tanks, ensuring both complexity and freshness.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
