The elegance and minerality of a great white Burgundy by Joseph Drouhin

The estate

Founded in 1880 in Beaune, the Maison Joseph Drouhin is an emblematic figure of Burgundy, France. This historic estate, which today spans around a hundred hectares, is renowned for its forward-thinking approach, illustrated by its adoption of biodynamics as early as the late 1980s. Currently led by Frédéric Drouhin, representing the fourth generation, the family estate continues a tradition of excellence. The house skillfully combines its négociant activity with the management of its own vineyards to offer wines that fully express the authenticity of their terroirs.

The vineyard

The Montagny appellation is located at the southern end of the Côte Chalonnaise. The vines thrive at altitudes between 200 and 350 meters, benefiting from excellent east and southeast exposure. The terroir consists of limestone and marl soils with a predominantly clay component, giving the grapes lovely vivacity and a distinctive minerality.

The vintage

The year 2023 ranks among the hottest vintages recorded in the region. These exceptional climatic conditions favored early, perfect ripening of the berries, allowing for a generous harvest while preserving the natural balance of the growing cycle.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for this Montagny Village 2023 are hand-harvested in perforated crates. The whole clusters undergo slow, gentle pressing. After a brief settling period, the clear juice is transferred to barrels for alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, 10 to 15% of which are new, for a period of 12 to 14 months.
