William Kelley

The 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune Clos des Godeaux offers up aromas of sweet plums, berries and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample palate that's framed by chalky tannins. It's a strong performance from this south-facing site.

Grown on one of the highest, south-facing slopes in the village, this medium-bodied, spicy and full-flavored wine is alive with red and black cherries, floral notes and moderate tannins. Fresh on the palate and tangy on the finish, yet it carries enough ripe fruit to satisfy. Drink or hold.

Lieu-dit just above Les Lavières. They bought the vineyard with a much-photographed cabotte. Unusually, quite a lot of whole bunch in this wine that, we were assured, is relatively good value. Different from Les Godeaux. Barrel-aged wine blended in tank. Tank sample. Deep crimson. Spicy, ripe fruit with a spine of tannin. But not that long. (JR)
