Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Baudes" 2018 by Louis Jadot
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a deep ruby red hue, adorned with subtle violet reflections in its youth, which will evolve towards garnet over the years.
Nose
The bouquet displays remarkable complexity, releasing delicate floral aromas of peony and rose petal, intertwined with indulgent notes of cherry and small red berries. The whole is enhanced by subtle hints of bergamot, white tea and a touch of mineral salt.
Palate
Ample and deep, the palate offers a beautiful layering of flavours. It is built around a lively acidity and particularly refined tannins, wrapped in a very fleshy fruity core. The tasting concludes on a lingering and delicately perfumed finish.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs harmoniously with delicate meats such as roast poultry with mushrooms, a fillet of veal or pork accompanied by a light herb sauce. After a few years of ageing, it will elevate fine feathered game or mild soft cheeses such as Brillat-Savarin.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Baudes" 2018, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18 °C, ideally in a balloon-style glass. A light decanting of thirty to sixty minutes is advised in its youth. Blessed with a solid structure, this wine can be enjoyed until around 2038.
The elegance and depth of a Premier Cru from Chambolle-Musigny
The estate
The family's winegrowing history began in 1826, but it was in 1859 that Maison Louis Jadot was officially founded, firmly rooted in Beaune, at the heart of Burgundy. Now owned by the Kopf family and led by Thomas Seiter, the house stands out for its ability to bring out the best of a vast mosaic of terroirs. Combining tradition, respect for the environment and mastery of ageing thanks to its own cooperage, Louis Jadot has established itself as an essential benchmark, recognised worldwide for the consistency and quality of its cuvées.
The vineyard
The "Les Baudes" Climat is one of the prestigious premiers crus of the village of Chambolle-Musigny, located in the Côte de Nuits. This distinctive terroir, bordering Morey-Saint-Denis, lies on very calcareous and shallow soils, resting on a hard bedrock. These geological conditions impose natural stress on the vines, limiting their vigour and encouraging slow ripening. The grapes, hand-harvested, draw from it a remarkable concentration while preserving great minerality.
The vintage
The 2018 vintage is characterised by warm, sunny and particularly generous weather. These favourable climatic conditions made it possible to obtain grapes with a high level of maturity, offering abundant yields while retaining, thanks to the nature of the soils, a lovely freshness and the tension essential to the balance of the berries.
Winemaking and ageing
The making of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Baudes" 2018 relies on long fermentations in vats that can last up to four weeks, allowing a gentle and controlled extraction. The wine then benefits from an extended ageing of 18 to 20 months in oak barrels. The proportion of new wood and the toasting of the barrels are meticulously adjusted by the estate's in-house cooperage in order to preserve the authentic expression of the terroir.
