Wine Spectator

Bruce Sanderson

Lush and creamy, this white exudes peach, apple pie, lemon oil and baking spice flavors. Gathers greater definition while building to the mineral- and spice-tinged finish. Supple and harmonious yet should develop well into the next decade. A chalky feel emerges in the end. Best from 2027 through 2038. 280 cases made, 50 cases imported.

Decanter

The 2023 Chevalier Demoiselles was the finest wine in the Latour cellar this year. The style is very rich, but this is an impeccably well-made wine, with aromas ranging from melon to passion fruit, quince and white peach. The finish shows impressive density, full body and length. The acidity, at best balanced, is in keeping with the 2023 vintage. The grapes come from the 0.51 ha parcel that the domaine purchased over 100 years ago, splitting the original plot with Jadot; tasting them today makes for an interesting comparison.

A Burgundy Grand Cru at the Pinnacle of Excellence

The Estate

Founded in 1797, Maison Louis Latour is one of Burgundy's leading names. Based in Aloxe-Corton, this family house, now in its eleventh generation, owns the largest holding of Grands Crus in Burgundy. Its dual role as both estate and négociant, together with its historic part in introducing Chardonnay to Corton-Charlemagne, makes it a benchmark of excellence.

The Vineyard

The Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru "Les Demoiselles" comes from an exceptional 0.51-hectare plot at the top of the Montrachet hill, in the commune of Puligny-Montrachet. The vineyard lies on a subsoil of clay and chalk. The vines, with an average age of 40 years, are harvested by hand and yield an average of 35 hectolitres per hectare.

Winemaking and Ageing

The Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru "Les Demoiselles" 2023 is vinified traditionally in oak barrels and undergoes full malolactic fermentation. It is then aged for 8 to 10 months in 100% new, medium-toast French oak barrels from the Tonnellerie Louis Latour.

Grape Variety

This white wine from Burgundy is made from 100% Chardonnay.
