M. Chapoutier : Riesling "Lieu-dit Fels" Domaine Schieferkopf 2017

The first impression is of caramelized apple, but with aeration notes of unsulfured dried apricot and resin develop. Surprisingly juicy on the palate, in spite of the caramelized apple and pear character. Very straight and crisp finish with mineral freshness alongside the resiny note. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Cask sample. Sweet lemon and lime fruit. Still has some sweetness on the finish, giving succulence and treacle – this will be fermented to full dryness before bottling, which seems a shame in a way! Doesn’t seem to have the same salinity or steeliness as their Berg or Buehl. (RH)
