Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Chassagne-Montrachet Village "Margot" 2024

Tasting

Colour
The colour of this white wine from France stands out with a beautiful natural shine, a visual brilliance preserved thanks to a gentle winemaking approach and moderate aging in wood.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals lovely freshness, dominated by notes of citrus, green apple and subtle touches of stone fruit such as white peach. Delicate mineral nuances, evoking gunflint, complete this olfactory expression.

Palate
On the palate, this wine is elegant, pure and airy. It offers a firm, refreshing acidity that harmoniously balances with a round, creamy texture. The finish stands out with a savoury minerality and great precision.

Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood such as lobster or grilled langoustine, as well as with grilled or fried fish or fish prepared in a cream sauce. It also pairs very well with white meats, particularly poached poultry, coq au vin or foie gras.

Other Characteristics

This wine has a moderate alcohol content, ranging between 11.5% and 12%. Before malolactic fermentation, the measured pH is between 3.15 and 3.20. It is made without chaptalization, fining or filtration.

The Elegance and Purity of a Great White Burgundy

The Estate

Founded in the late 1970s by Marc Colin and his wife Michèle Ponavoy, Domaine Marc Colin et Fils is a key figure in Burgundy. Historically based in Saint-Aubin, the estate now spans around eleven and a half hectares of vines under direct cultivation. Currently led by Caroline and Damien Colin, the estate stands out for its philosophy centred on respecting the soil and the purity of the terroir. The estate favours the French market and is committed to producing authentic wines that reflect the excellence of their appellations.

The Vineyard

The grapes come from plots located around the village of Chassagne-Montrachet. This terroir benefits from optimal exposure on well-drained slopes. The soils are clay-limestone in nature, enriched with an abundant presence of gravel that gives the wine its mineral character. The estate practises sustainable viticulture, with mechanical soil work to encourage deep vine rooting, and carries out exclusively hand-harvesting.

The Vintage

2024 was a particularly challenging year, marked by persistent humidity, cool temperatures and heavy mildew pressure. Despite these difficult weather conditions, which led to low yields, the growing cycle allowed the grapes, harvested from 19 September onwards, to reach good phenolic development.

Winemaking and Aging

For the Chassagne-Montrachet Village "Margot" 2024, whole clusters are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place without any chaptalization. Aging takes place in oak barrels, with a very limited proportion of new barrels between 5% and 10%, for eleven months. The wine then rests for six months in tank before being bottled at the beginning of the year, without undergoing fining or filtration.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay.
