Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru "Près le Cellier" Domaine 2023 Méo-Camuzet

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful red hue.

Nose
The nose opens with aromas of ripe red fruits, candied orange and rose petals. It also reveals notes of apricot, plum, nougat and almond, subtly underscored by a mineral touch.

Palate
With a medium to powerful structure, the palate offers generous, elegant material. The tannins are smooth and velvety, accompanying a fine balance between acidity and alcohol. The finish expresses a spicy minerality with a hint of liquorice.

Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with feathered game such as duck or pheasant, as well as with grilled or braised red meats. It also pairs very well with dishes based on wild mushrooms, truffles, or robust cheeses such as Époisses or blue-veined cheeses.

Service and Storage

For optimal tasting, we recommend serving this Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru "Près le Cellier" Domaine 2023 at a temperature of between 12 and 13°C in its youth, and between 15 and 16°C at maturity. This wine has remarkable ageing potential and can be cellared to be enjoyed until around 2053.

The Elegance and Minerality of a Grand Cru from Burgundy

The Estate

Founded in 1959 in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Domaine Méo-Camuzet is among the most renowned producers in Burgundy. Spanning around fourteen hectares, the estate cultivates prestigious plots using environmentally friendly methods inspired by organic farming. Today, Jean-Nicolas Méo runs the estate with passion, continuing a rich family heritage. Renowned for an approach that combines modernity with respect for terroir, he crafts wines that combine concentration and finesse, perfectly reflecting the unique identity of each Burgundian climat.

The Vineyard

The terroir of Clos Vougeot stands out for its complex geological mosaic. The "Près le Cellier" plot benefits from a privileged location near the old monastic structures, creating a unique underground microclimate that favours grape ripening. The vines flourish on varied soils, ranging from shallow, gravelly soils over limestone slabs at the top of the slope, to deeper, clay-and-silt soils further down. The estate favours manual and mechanical soil work, without synthetic chemical products.

The Vintage

The year began with a particularly mild winter, leading to an early growing cycle. The season was then marked by unpredictable weather and heatwaves during the harvest period. Despite these climatic challenges, the grapes reached an exceptional level of ripeness. The harvest took place quickly and early, between the beginning and mid-September, in order to preserve the balance and sanitary quality of the berries.

Winemaking and Aging

The harvest is entirely manual, with rigorous sorting of the bunches before fermentation. The estate adopts a low-intervention approach to preserve the natural expression of the fruit. This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru "Près le Cellier" Domaine 2023 is aged entirely in new oak barrels for fifteen to eighteen months. At bottling, the wine undergoes neither fining nor filtration in order to preserve its full aromatic complexity.
