Yves Beck

Freshness and ripeness show in equal measure in the bouquet of Pavillon Rouge. It reveals notes of fully ripe dark berries, floral nuances, a touch of oak, then wafts of peppermint. Slightly silky on the attack, the wine stands out for the finesse of its tannins. They are fleshy, yet also firm and muscular. This latter point can also be linked to the wine’s acidic structure, which brings drive and even a hint of bite. It is a coherent, well-built, very serious wine that reflects the Margaux team’s commitment to precision, especially in the finesse of the tannins. A very fine success.

Vinum

This Pavillon Rouge could hardly be more expressive: blackcurrant and ripe blackberry aromas; on the palate, ripe fruit, powerful structure and great fullness, with tannins like velvet and silk. The wine is very concentrated, yet shows a fascinating sense of lightness; the finish is long, highly aromatic and balanced. A very generous Pavillon Rouge.

Description

A delicate and balanced second wine from Margaux

The estate
A living testament to the greatness of Bordeaux grands crus, Château Margaux traces its roots back to the 12th century. Elevated to the rank of Premier Grand Cru in the 1855 Classification, it remains the only estate to have achieved a perfect score in this celebrated ranking. In 1977, the arrival of André Mentzelopoulos breathed new life into the estate, with the clear ambition of taking the Grand Vin to the highest peaks. He also revived the château's second wine, Pavillon Rouge, whose creation dates back to 1908.

The vineyard
The vineyard extends its roots over an exceptional terroir, set on a gravel mound at the heart of the Margaux appellation. The plots are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. This gravelly, clay-limestone soil, combined with meticulous winemaking expertise, gives rise to wines of remarkable finesse, brilliantly revealing the full typicity of the terroir.

The wine
Pavillon Rouge is the estate's second wine.

The vintage
2025 stands out for its contrasting weather conditions. A mild and balanced spring preceded a dry summer. While budburst and flowering were early and uniform, the low rainfall in early summer led to water stress, before a scorching summer set in. Between late August and early September, nearly 60 mm of rain helped restore the water balance, combined with a drop in temperatures, ideal for refining the ripeness of the berries. 28% of the harvest was selected for the production of this cuvée.

Blend
This Pavillon Rouge 2025 is the result of a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc.
