Description

Tasting Notes and Serving Advice for the Beaune 1er Cru "Les Teurons" 2020 from Remoissenet Père et Fils

Tasting

Color

The wine displays a deep ruby-red color with slightly purplish highlights at the rim.

Nose

The bouquet reveals aromas of raspberries and ripe strawberries, accompanied by delicate floral notes and subtle touches of sweet spice from aging in oak barrels.

Palate

The attack on the palate unveils juicy flavors of cherries and red fruits, enhanced by mineral nuances reflecting the limestone terroir. The mid-palate develops beautiful depth with silky, well-integrated tannins that provide structure and aging potential without overpowering the fruit expression. Natural acidity brings freshness and balance, while the finish lingers with persistent red-fruit notes and hints of saline minerality.

Food and Wine Pairing

This Beaune 1er Cru pairs harmoniously with herb-roasted poultry, boeuf bourguignon, eggs en meurette, or coq au vin. It also elegantly complements grilled red meats served with maître d'hôtel butter, roasted feathered game, or a mushroom gratin. For cheeses, opt for a well-aged Comté, a Brie de Meaux, or a young Époisses.

Serving and Cellaring

Serve the Beaune 1er Cru "Les Teurons" 2020 at 15-16°C in a Burgundy glass to fully reveal its aromas. Decanting for 30 to 45 minutes before serving helps the wine open up and soften its structure. This wine can be enjoyed now but will evolve favorably through around 2030.

The estate

Founded in 1877 by Pierre-Alfred Remoissenet in Beaune, the House Remoissenet Père et Fils is a historic institution in Burgundy. Acquired in 2005 by American businessman Edward L. Milstein, the house underwent a remarkable transformation under the leadership of Bernard Repolt and oenologist Claudie Jobard. Today, Remoissenet Père et Fils farms around forty hectares of vines spread across the Côte de Beaune, the Côte de Nuits, and the Côte Chalonnaise. The estate combines its role as a négociant-éleveur with estate-owned parcels in prestigious Beaune climats, favoring environmentally respectful viticulture oriented toward biodynamics and precise winemaking that showcases the expression of Burgundy’s terroirs.

The vineyard

The climat Les Teurons covers around 8.42 hectares on a mid-slope site, between 300 and 340 meters in altitude, on the southern hillside of Beaune near the border with Pommard. The vineyard benefits from an optimal south to south-southeast exposure that promotes sunlight and grape ripening. The clay-limestone soils feature a composition rich in limestone and sandy elements over 30 to 60 centimeters of depth, resting on a substrate of white marls that ensures efficient drainage while maintaining steady water availability. This geological structure gives the wines fine ripeness combined with a mineral tension characteristic of Beaune at its best.

The vintage

The 2020 vintage in Burgundy was marked by an early growing cycle, with budbreak as early as mid-March following an exceptionally mild winter. Flowering took place in excellent conditions in May, ensuring even fruit set. Summer was defined by persistent high-pressure conditions with three heatwave episodes and a significant water deficit, with rainfall in July and August totaling only 37.9 millimeters. These hot, dry conditions led to moderate water stress and some sunburn in the most exposed parcels. Early harvesting, which began in late August under ideal weather conditions, made it possible to pick grapes at optimal ripeness with a fine balance between aromatic concentration and natural freshness.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Beaune 1er Cru "Les Teurons" 2020 were harvested by hand, then meticulously sorted on three successive sorting tables to retain only perfectly sound berries. After destemming, fermentation took place in open wooden vats with precise control of fermentation temperatures to extract color and tannins while preserving aromatic freshness. Aging lasted between fifteen and eighteen months in French oak barrels, with a breakdown of one-third new barrels, one-third once-used barrels, and one-third older barrels, allowing for harmonious oak integration without masking the expression of the terroir.
