Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 Remoissenet Père et Fils

Tasting

Colour
In its youth, the colour reveals a pale gold hue enhanced by delicate greenish highlights.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of ripe pear and white flowers, perfectly complemented by a characteristic minerality evoking wet stone.

Palate
Energetic and powerful, the palate offers a lovely mineral tension carried by a vibrant acidity. Both round and generous, it stretches into a remarkably long finish with intense fruity flavours.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with noble crustaceans such as roasted lobster or scallops with beurre blanc. It also enhances creamy poultry dishes with mushrooms, white meats, as well as aged cheeses such as an old Comté or a Beaufort.

Service and storage

For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. This wine, built for long-term ageing, will need several years in the cellar to fully open up and can be kept until around 2048.

Other characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 14.42% vol., a total acidity of 3.99 g/l, and a pH of 3.38.

The mineral elegance and power of a white Burgundy wine by Remoissenet Père et Fils

The estate

Founded in 1879 within the medieval ramparts of Beaune, France, the house of Remoissenet Père et Fils is a historic reference in Burgundy. Initially a merchant house, it developed by acquiring its own vineyards. Acquired in 2005 by American financier Edward L. Milstein, majority shareholder, and Maison Louis Jadot, the estate combines tradition with a demand for quality. Under the guidance of a team of experts, the estate stands out for its biodynamic viticulture and its minimal-intervention philosophy, offering wines of great authenticity prized by collectors.

The vineyard

The grapes behind this Corton-Charlemagne come from vines aged 40 to 60 years, located on the steep slopes of the Corton hill. Facing south-southwest, this terroir rises between 280 and 330 metres in altitude. The soils, resting on a Jurassic geological base, consist of an alternation of marls, clays, and limestone rocks, giving the grapes a unique mineral richness.

The vintage

The year 2023 began with a warm, dry winter and early spring, followed by welcome rains in March. After a uniform flowering in May and an unsettled June, the end of summer proved mild. An unusual heatwave in September accelerated the final ripening of the grapes, which were harvested in the cool morning hours on 16 September to preserve their full freshness.

Winemaking and aging

The making of this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 is based on a minimal-intervention approach. After manual harvesting, the whole bunches are gently pressed using a pneumatic press. Fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts in new French oak barrels with a capacity of 342 litres. The wine is then aged in these same wooden vessels, allowing for a subtle integration of aromas.
