Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Roc d'Anglade "Reserva Especial N.10"
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a light ruby red hue, enhanced by beautiful brilliance, a certain density, and subtle violet reflections along the rim.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of red and black fruits such as black cherry, blueberry, and blackcurrant. It is then enriched with sweet spice notes such as cinnamon, clove, and black pepper, accompanied by a touch of dried herbs and a fine minerality.
Palate
The palate stands out for its striking freshness and remarkable liveliness. The tannins, exceptionally fine and delicately powdery, blend seamlessly into the whole, offering masterful balance. The finish, remarkably persistent, evolves elegantly toward herbaceous and tertiary notes.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs beautifully with lean red meats such as grilled veal fillet or beef dishes with aromatic herbs, as well as rich poultry such as duck. It also pairs perfectly with hard cheeses like an aged Comté or Beaufort.
Service and storage
The Roc d'Anglade "Reserva Especial N.10" can be enjoyed now, but its ageing potential will also allow it to rest in the cellar for many years to come.
The elegance and freshness of a great wine from the Languedoc
The estate
Founded in 1999 by Rémy and Martine Pedreno, the Roc d'Anglade estate embodies the revival of a historic terroir located in Langlade, in the Gard region. Rejecting the constraints of traditional appellations in favor of complete creative freedom, the estate produces wines from the Languedoc of great elegance. Today, Rémy and Martine Pedreno run this family estate. Pioneers of organic farming in the region, they carry on a centuries-old winemaking tradition, favoring finesse and pure pleasure over concentration.
The vineyard
This wine, classified as IGP Pays du Gard, comes from a vineyard of about ten hectares planted on clay-silt soils resting on a marl-limestone base. Surrounded by garrigue, the vines benefit from a favorable altitude and an unusual northwest exposure, ensuring natural freshness in the grapes. Farmed under certified organic viticulture, the vineyard has an average age of 25 years, although some plots contain vines over sixty years old. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand with rigorous selection in the vineyard.
Blend
Inspired by the Spanish solera system, this cuvée is the result of a meticulous harmony between several vintages. It combines 33% of the 2018 vintage, 28% of 2017, 24% of 2019, 9% of 2016, 4% of 2015, as well as 1% of 2014 and 1% of 2013.
Winemaking and aging
For the Roc d'Anglade "Reserva Especial N.10", vinification begins with whole-bunch fermentation using exclusively indigenous yeasts. The aging process stands out for its exceptional length: the wine rests for 54 months in used oak foudres and demi-muids, allowing gentle micro-oxygenation. It then undergoes an additional 12 months of aging in bottle. The wine is lightly filtered, with no fining.
Grape varieties
This blend showcases the estate's signature varieties, with a likely dominance of Carignan, complemented by Mourvèdre, Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault.
