Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Terroir Al Limit's Arbossar 2023
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a deep, luminous ruby colour with purple highlights. Its clarity is remarkable, with a beautiful brilliance and a slight transparency on the rim of the glass.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex, blending scents of red and blue fruits, such as raspberry and blueberry, with notes of Mediterranean herbs like rosemary and sage. Floral touches, sweet spices and a pronounced minerality reminiscent of graphite and warm stone round out the profile.
Palate
The attack is straight and vibrant, carried by an electric acidity. The texture is at once concentrated, dense and elegant, supported by fine, chalky tannins. A saline, mineral sensation accompanies a particularly long and lingering finish.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs beautifully with roasted or grilled red meats, slow-cooked dishes and feathered game. It also goes very well with Mediterranean-inspired recipes featuring roasted vegetables, olive oil and aromatic herbs, as well as aged hard cheeses. It is best to avoid overly sweet sauces or those based on thick cream.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate Arbossar 2023, a serving temperature of between 16 and 18°C is recommended, with a brief decanting to release all of its aromatic complexity. This wine has excellent cellaring potential thanks to its beautiful structure and natural acidity.
The pure expression of Carignan on the steep Spanish terroirs of Priorat
The estate
Founded in the early 2000s by Dominik Huber and Eben Sadie, Terroir al Límit is an emblematic estate located in Torroja del Priorat, in Catalonia. Now led exclusively by its current owner, Dominik Huber, the estate covers 25 hectares of vines cultivated according to organic farming. This prestigious name stands out for its Burgundy-inspired approach, favouring finesse, transparency and the authentic expression of the soils. By moving away from powerful extractions, the estate has redefined the region's style with elegant wines.
The vineyard
The cuvée comes from the L'Arbossar lieu-dit, located in the municipality of Torroja del Priorat. This exceptional terroir is characterised by steep north-facing slopes, at an altitude of between 350 and 400 metres. The soils are composed of llicorella, a schistous slate typical of the region, mixed with granite. The vines, farmed organically, are over 100 years old, most of them having been planted in 1910. Due to the steep inclination of the hillsides, all of the vineyard work is carried out by hand.
Winemaking and aging
The harvest is carried out by hand in small crates. In the cellar, the vinification of Arbossar 2023 is gentle and minimally interventionist. The grapes ferment as whole bunches thanks to indigenous yeasts, with a maceration of around ten days without aggressive punching down in order to preserve the finesse of the tannins. The wine is then aged for 8 months in concrete vats, a choice that helps refine the structure while preserving the purity of the fruit and the mineral identity, with no addition of new oak.
Grape variety
This Spanish red wine is a 100% Carignan.
