The Elegance and Complexity of a Great Burgundy Wine
The Estate
Although the family's winemaking history dates back to the eighteenth century, the current estate was officially founded in 2001. Located in Burgundy, the estate is now run by Thibault Bocquillon Liger-Belair, who oversees an 8-hectare vineyard. Cultivated according to the principles of organic farming and biodynamics, the estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach, illustrated by eco-friendly facilities and meticulous soil management. The wines produced reflect a philosophy centered on the pure expression of terroir and gentle winemaking.
The Vineyard
The 0.72-hectare plot dedicated to Clos Vougeot is located in the southern part of the appellation. Stretching over two hundred meters, it crosses three distinct types of soil: rocky clay-based ground, gravel mixed with iron-rich red clay, and finer soils made up of loam. The vines, 60% of which were planted in 1944 and the rest in 1992, benefit from entirely manual harvesting, allowing for a rigorous selection of the best bunches.
The Vintage
The year 2022 brought mild weather conditions to the region. Following a favorable summer flowering and low disease pressure throughout the growing season, the moderately warm months of August and September allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness ahead of a harvest spread over three weeks.
Winemaking and Aging
For this Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2022, the harvest includes 40% whole clusters. Fermentation lasts about three weeks, with particularly gentle extraction to preserve the finesse of the aromas. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for twenty months, with 60% new oak, allowing for a subtle integration without masking the identity of the terroir.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
