Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Ladoix Village "La Toppe d'Avignon" 2023 by Thibault Liger-Belair
Tasting
Colour
The wine reveals a beautiful ruby hue.
Nose
Remarkably precise, the nose releases aromas of dark fruits such as blackcurrant and black cherry, enhanced by subtle mineral notes, dried herbs and earthy nuances.
Palate
The attack is soft and harmonious, revealing an elegant texture. The mid-palate unfolds beautiful concentration of black cherry, supported by mineral tension and exceptionally fine tannins. The finish is long, fresh and persistent, marked by spicy touches and a hint of salinity.
Food and Wine Pairings
Ideal with roast red meats such as beef fillet or leg of lamb with herbs, this red wine from France also pairs wonderfully with poultry in sauce, game birds or mature cheeses such as Comté and Époisses.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend serving this wine between 14 and 16°C, after decanting for thirty to sixty minutes. Approachable in its youth, this Ladoix Village "La Toppe d'Avignon" 2023 cuvée can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2028.
The Elegance and Precision of a Red Wine from Ladoix Village
The Estate
Although the family's winemaking history dates back to 1720, the modern Thibault Liger-Belair estate was officially founded in 2001. Located in Nuits-Saint-Georges in Burgundy, the estate is now run by Thibault Liger-Belair, who took over the family vineyards to infuse them with his own vision. The vineyard extends over a little more than 7 hectares in the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, complemented by plots in Beaujolais. The estate stands out for its highly exacting, artisanal approach, guided by organic and biodynamic farming, aiming to express the purest authenticity of each terroir.
The Vineyard
The cuvée comes from a singular terroir located on the south-west-facing slope, at the entrance to the Combe de Magny-lès-Villers, within the Ladoix appellation. The lieu-dit "La Toppe d'Avignon" is characterised by a collapse of the bedrock that forms hollows. This geological feature creates soils of varying depth, ranging from two metres in the lower part to less than one metre on the higher ground, scattered with small limestone pebbles. The fine clays that make up this terroir give the grapes beautiful concentration while preserving a round, elegant texture.
Vinification and Ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand, with rigorous berry sorting. In the cellar, the philosophy is minimally interventionist for the Ladoix Village "La Toppe d'Avignon" 2023. Fermentation is accompanied by gentle extraction, favouring light pumping over to preserve the finesse of the aromas and avoid hardening the tannins. The wine is then aged on its lees in barrels for at least one year. To preserve its full integrity and aromatic complexity, it is bottled without fining or filtration.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
