Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Grand Élevage" 2025 by Verget
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a hue ranging from pale to light gold, reflecting a carefully managed ageing process.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet expresses a beautiful minerality, often described as crystalline. It exudes scents of white fruits such as pear and apple, peach, along with hints of yellow-fleshed fruits and white flowers, all underscored by a subtle smoky touch.
Palate
The palate offers a remarkable balance between an enveloping roundness and great mineral freshness. The mouthfeel is dense and rich, carried by a persistent, mouth-watering finish that highlights the elegance of this wine.
Food and wine pairings
This great white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood such as crab or shrimp, as well as with delicate fish like sole meunière. It will also accompany fine poultry in cream and mushroom sauce, veal dishes, or pressed cooked-curd cheeses such as Comté.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this wine, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of around 12°C. Offered en primeur, this vintage is continuing its ageing and will be delivered at a later date.
The richness and mineral precision of a Pouilly-Fuissé white wine crafted by Verget
The estate
Founded in 1990 by Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine, Verget is an atypical négociant house based in Sologny, in Burgundy. Operating as a true auteur-style estate, this house stands out for its demanding approach summed up in its motto: "the best wine is made using the best grapes". Still led today by its owner Jean-Marie Guffens, supported by cellar master Julien Desplans, Verget is dedicated exclusively to showcasing the great terroirs of the Mâconnais, fully mastering the vinifications to reveal the identity of each parcel.
The vineyard
This white wine comes from the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, one of the most emblematic terroirs of the Mâconnais. The grapes are sourced from a rigorous selection of several plots located in the historic villages of Vergisson and Fuissé. These vines thrive on steep slopes with soils composed of ancient limestone, under the influence of a temperate climate. The partner growers practice sustainable viticulture, limiting yields to guarantee optimal berry quality.
Winemaking and ageing
True to the house philosophy, the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Grand Élevage" 2025 cuvée receives meticulous attention within the Sologny cellar. The whole grape bunches undergo slow pressing to preserve the finesse of the juices. Each plot is vinified separately to respect the singular expression of its terroir of origin. The final blend then benefits from an extended and particularly careful ageing, the true signature of this cuvée, aimed at bringing complexity and a silky texture while preserving the brightness of the fruit.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
